It was certainly a magical moment from a young man who has received a lot of love after carving out a position for himself.
Following the goal, he received even more love, in his own words:
"I had received some messages of support when I found out I was going to make my NHL debut on Wednesday. People were wishing me luck, but it really picked up after my first goal. It seems like a lot of people saw it. A lot of people are proud for me. I was really surprised by this huge wave of love. Not only from the people in Gatineau, but also from the new fans who are getting to know me in Washington. At our practice the next day, some fans had put up a banner to congratulate me. I didn't know I could reach so many people!" -Hendrix Lapierre
WOW! It was certainly a surprise for a young man of 19 years old, who arrives, as a Quebecer, in the American capital. Receiving this dose of love from the fans of the Caps, during a training session, certainly swells the level of satisfaction. A beautiful moment etched forever.
I'll leave you with Lapierre's speech about how his first goal was just perfect.
"I've often dreamed about that first goal in the NHL. It kind of worked out the way I thought it would. You always imagine the perfect scenario. You imagine a beautiful goal that will blow the fans away. That's really what happened, but the celebration with T.J. Oshie afterwards made it even more fun. The players on the bench were overexcited. So were the fans. Everything was perfect. I was immersed in an unreal world. We won the game. Alex Ovechkin also scored two goals. He even passed Marcel Dionne with his 731st and 732nd goals. It was a historic night and I consider myself lucky to have been part of it. How could I have dreamed of scoring such a goal?" -Hendrix Lapierre
