He wants to play for the CH and is doing everything in his power (he and his agent) to force the Jets to sign Kent Hughes.
Whether it's via trade or via the free agent market (in 2024), it seems obvious that Dubois will eventually sign a big contract.
What could this famous deal look like?
As the Hockey 24/7 page suggests, the answer makes sense. Kent Hughes would certainly be willing to offer a 7 or 8 year contract, to Dubois, and he's going to rely on the one given to his number one center player.
On October 12, 2021, Nick Suzuki signed an eight-year, $63 million contract. (7.875 million per season)
As the Hockey 24/7 page mentions, Dubois' contract will definitely be in those waters.
So, if it obviously comes to fruition, the Montreal Canadiens would have to offer a 7-year contract, which would pay between $7.5 million and $8 million for the former third overall pick in the 2016 draft.
It's only a proposal, but it makes perfect sense.
It would be a nice pay raise for Dubois, who was making $5 million last year, and it would also make sense for the Habs (compared to Suzuki).
We have to admit, a center line like that:
Nick Suzuki
Pierre-Luc Dubois
Kirby Dach
It makes you dream!
It will be interesting to watch, but one thing is for sure, if Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton manage to get their hands on Dubois, via trade this summer, expect a new contract to be announced in the next few hours/minutes.
And also, expect it to be a 7 or 8 year contract and worth $7.5-8 million annually. Would this be a good contract for the CH, in your opinion?
