The 2021-2022 season has been a rather disappointing one for Winnipeg Jets fans.

Not only did the team miss the playoffs for the first time in five years, but the way some of the team's mainstays behaved was not so good for some of the team's players, such as Paul Stastny, who did not hesitate to denounce the bad atmosphere within the team.

My colleague Keven Mawn of Fanadiens.com recently reported that one of the players who may be responsible for this toxic atmosphere may well be forward Mark Scheifele.

Scheifele made some rather selfish comments during the team's post-season wrap-up, and it makes us wonder if the 29-year-old forward could end up on the trade market.

And according to Darren Dreger, it appears so.

The TSN reporter said that Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff is going to consider parting with his star forward and he mentions that the market for him could be VERY BIG.

"If they are legitimately interested in trading Mark Scheifele, and I believe they are, it would be quite a turnaround. The deal would be extreme and the return would be terrifying."

Imagine such a return for Scheifele, a forward in his prime who can produce at an average of more than a point per game.

If the trade that sent Jack Eichel to the Golden Knights is any indication, that's a minimum of two established players, one or even two first-round picks, and possibly some other compensation.

Obviously, we're not there yet, but the fact that his name could be circulating in trade rumors could give some clues as to the Jets' intentions for him.

Scheifele has 70 points in 67 games this season and has two more years left on his contract at a salary of $6.125 million per year.
