As you already know, Joel Edmundson officially returned to action this week, and to (temporarily) make room in his lineup, Kent Hughes mysteriously placed Evgenii Dadonov on the injured list.

This is a temporary solution, but Dadonov will obviously leave the "IR" on Tuesday. Kent Hughes will have to make a move before then, either by making a trade, placing a player on the injured list, or sending a youngster to the Laval Rocket.

On this subject, Hughes seems to clearly prioritize the first option, as he has too many NHL forwards right now.

On Thursday, the excellent Pierre LeBrun reported this during the Insider Trading capsule:

"The Canadiens have contacted several NHL clubs to try to create a trade to address their surplus of forwards."

"Whether it's Evgenii Dadonov, Jonathan Drouin, Mike Hoffman or others, the Canadiens have too many players up front."

"There's no question that Montreal is looking to make a move."

Dadonov, 33, has not scored a point in eight games with the CH and has one year left on his contract with a $5 million salary.

Drouin ($5.5M) also has one year left on his contract, while the Tricolore is "taken" with Mike Hoffman for two more seasons at $4.5M annually.

We told you earlier this week that the Washington Capitals could emerge as a possible trade partner with the Habs, who lost the services of Connor Brown for the long term. Would they want to replace Brown (and his salary) with a Dadonov, Drouin or Hoffman?

It seems possible and it's a file to follow closely.

Three players would be involved in the discussions.
