Kent Hughes just won't stop.
Immediately after the Montreal Canadiens' end-of-season review, he embarked on a long and generous media tour. He gave several interviews, answered a multitude of questions on a multitude of subjects, with a beautiful transparency.
He then attended the 2022 NHL lottery, gave more interviews and then flew to Finland (with Jeff Gorton) to see the best prospects in the world and to prepare for the 2022 Canadiens draft.
As if that wasn't enough, well CH general manager Kent Hughes was on The Cam & Strick podcast today (even though he is currently in Finland at the World Hockey Championships).
One of the things he was asked about was the Carey Price issue, check out his response:
"Ultimately, in Carey's situation, he has to make the right decision for him. Obviously, that decision will have a big impact on us in one way or another. We're able to empathize with him and obviously there's a timeline that's in place for him to get better and to get back to being a full-time goalie. But, there is a timeline for us as well. We hope they match up, but, at the end of the day, we have to respect the fact that he has to do things the way he has to do them in order to get back to full time." - Kent Hughes
Recall that last we heard that Carey is still seriously considering having surgery (again) and if he doesn't, he won't be able to handle the workload of an NHL starting goalie.
As reported by our colleagues at Marqueur.com, it's clear that for Kent Hughes and the CH, whatever the answer is and whatever Price's decision is, they need to know sooner rather than later.
For management, it could change everything.
For them, there is a major difference between Price coming back or Price being inactive and releasing over $10 million under the salary cap. It can change a lot the acquisitions and trades that Kent Hughes will try to make this summer.
