The National Hockey League regular season finally begins in just a few days, and it's time for some big decisions and surprises.
Teams in the NHL will have to release some very interesting players, due to the current reality of a very tight salary cap, and the Montreal Canadiens are one of those organizations that will have some heartbreaking decisions to make.
There will be surprises!
Darren Dreger (TSN) mentioned it. According to these sources, "surprise players" are about to be placed on waivers and we will definitely be watching this very closely.
If we look at the Habs, which players will be cut? Which forwards will have to deal with the massive surplus on offense?
Maxim Lapierre and Guillaume Latendresse have been asked about the famous cuts.
Guillaume, for his part, believes that this is a great opportunity to change the culture and make big decisions. He obviously prioritizes young people.
He believes that the CH should part with Jonathan Drouin, Evgenii Dadonov, and even Mike Hoffman. It would be quite a story if all three of these players were released at once. Would you believe it? Would you?
It's realistic to think that one of the three could be cut, but all three? That would be big!
Latendresse would also cut Jesse Ylonen and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
"To the extent that we want to change the dynamic, the philosophy and we're willing to lose some games, these are players that are not part of the plan (Drouin, Hoffman and Dadonov)."
"We have to find a way to get rid of Drouin, Dadonov and Hoffman, whether it's via the trade market or waivers. I'd like to see us give room to the young guys," said Guillaume Latendresse
On the other side, Max Lapierre remains more cautious, and would instead cut back: Michael Pezzetta, Emil Heineman, Jesse Ylonen and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
For the two remaining cuts, he believes the CH should trade Christian Dvorak or Mike Hoffman.
"Kirby Dach and Sean Monahan are 100 times better than Dvorak. This is a league that is getting faster and faster and Christian is getting slower and slower."
"You have to trade a guy between Dvorak and Hoffman even though it's not easy to do because of the salary cap." - Max Lapierre This will be interesting to watch! Are you more on the side of Max or Guillaume? He's bringing some very good points!
Talking about Heineman, who had an incredible camp, the verdict seems to be in already:
