While most of the unrestricted free agents have already signed with new teams, one of the names we've been watching closely, P.K. Subban, is still free as a bird.
Subban has already confirmed that he intends to play next year, but his agent also mentioned that they feel he has earned the privilege of taking his time and being selective about his next contract and destination.
Regarding that famous next contract, insider David Pagnotta has some news:
"I'm told that P.K. Subban could sign a short-term, "prove it deal" if it means he signs with a Stanley Cup contender." - David Pagnotta
That says more about his intentions. So don't be surprised if Subban signs a one-season, low-paying contract with a team with big-time aspirations.
Subban as a 5th or 6th defenseman, at a low price, could be solid!
For those hoping to see him sign with the Montreal Canadiens, this news doesn't seem to point in that direction.
It's been six years since the Canadiens completed what is probably their biggest deal in the last ten years.
On June 29, 2016, Marc Bergevin sent star defenseman P.K. Subban to the Nashville Predators in exchange for another star defenseman, one Shea Weber.
