Last night, we learned some big news from Calgary, as the Flames announced that they had signed a major contract extension with their forward Jonathan Huberdeau.
An eight-year contract extension worth 10.5 million per year (ending in 2030-31, when Huberdeau will be 38).
In a press conference, Huberdeau revealed the reasons why he accepted this eight-year pact with the Flames.
First of all, he already feels very appreciated there and that is important to him.
Remember that earlier this week, the Flames' GM, Brad Treliving, came to Montreal to meet him. This meeting had a big impact on his decision. Huberdeau insisted that seeing his new GM fly in and take the time to travel to meet him in person proved to him that the Flames really care about him.
Secondly, according to Salim Nadim Valji, Huberdeau was immediately charmed by the city of Calgary, or at least by what he heard about his new city:
"(Brad Treliving) sold me so well and praised the city of Calgary, I'm now really excited to live there." - Jonathan Huberdeau
One thing is for sure, he will do his new organization a lot of proud.
