During the 2022 draft in Montreal, Jake Allen's name was widely circulated on the trade market and several teams are very interested in acquiring him.
According to information from the excellent Kevin Weekes (NHL Network and ESPN), trade talks involving Allen have really heated up and we shouldn't be surprised if an announcement comes this week.
Today, it's Nick Alberga's (Sportsnet) turn to have some news on the subject:
"I'm told that Washington, Toronto and Edmonton, among others, have officially inquired about acquiring goalie Jake Allen from the #GoHabsGo.
Montreal likes him a lot, so unsurprisingly, the price is high."
An interesting development!
So it seems to be between: the Capitals, the Leafs and the Oilers. These teams are also interested in Darcy Kuemper and Jack Campbell, so when these goalies sign their new contracts (this Wednesday), Allen's value will skyrocket and buyers might really up their offers for a possible deal.
Even if the number of wins wasn't there this season, goaltender Jake Allen still did well in front of the CH net last season.
Allen will be paid $2.875 million next year and will be in the last year of his contract. (A bargain)
However, if Carey Price is not able to play, or at least start next season, the Habs' staff could absolutely decide to keep Allen's services (and not trade him)
If that was your decision, what would you do? Trade Allen and sign another goalie? Keep Allen?
