Let's just say they started the ball rolling with the deal that sent Bo Horvat to the New York Islanders last week, but as Annie St-Onge of Rumeursdetransaction.com reports, another big piece could be leaving the organization, soon.
According to Farhan Lalji, who covers the Canucks for TSN, there is a good chance that goaltender Thatcher Demko will ask the Canucks for a trade, as he is no longer interested in playing for the British Columbia team.
Wow, that's a really big name!
The 27 year old goaltender is still under contract with the Canucks until 2026 at a salary of $5 million per season, but he is currently on the injured list and has not played since December 1st.
He had a good season last year, but let's just say that this year is much more difficult for him and for the whole Canucks team. While many were expecting the team to fight for a playoff spot, the Canucks are expected to make their mark in the lottery of the next draft.
But where I'm going with this is whether the Habs could potentially be interested in Thatcher Demko's services.
His contract would not be too demanding on the payroll and with the probable departures of Joel Edmundson, Sean Monahan and Jonathan Drouin, there will certainly be room for $5 million in the team's pockets.
But don't forget that Jake Allen and Samuel Montembeault are still under contract for next year and we haven't really heard any rumors linking the Canucks goalie to the Habs.
But since we are about three weeks away from the NHL trade deadline, let me ask you.
