An additional step has been taken in the selection process of the next general manager of the Tricolore. We now know the names of the last three candidates in the running to succeed Marc Bergevin.
They are Mathieu Darche, Daniel Brière and Kent Hughes. These three men will have the right to a second interview to convince the decision-making committee composed of Jeff Gorton, Geoff Molson and Bob Gainey.
The names of Darche and Brière had already been confirmed in the final three. As for Hughes, renowned Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed it on Saturday night during a segment of Hockey Night in Canada.
This means that the names of Patrick Roy, Marc Denis, Roberto Luongo, Stéphane Quintal, Émilie Castonguay and Danièle Sauvageau have not been retained for the general manager's chair. However, it is possible that they will receive an offer for another position in the organization. This will also be followed closely.
No date has yet been set for the appointment of the next general manager. One thing is for sure, we are getting closer to knowing his identity!
