On this Saturday morning, the Montreal Canadiens organization announced the signing of goaltender Jake Allen to a two-year contract extension worth $3.85 million annually.
After the official announcement, Allen answered questions from the media, and he provided some very interesting answers.
He loves Montreal:
"I have a lot of friends and acquaintances across the league who have gone through the autonomy and this process. I've been through a trade. For me, the grass is not greener anywhere else. I like what we have here and I like it here. I love the organization and the players. It's close to home in New Brunswick.
Logistically, I have two young children and a third one on the way. There are a lot of things that come into play for me and that's just as important as hockey."
He also took this great opportunity to announce some big news. Congratulations to the Allen family on the arrival of a third child!
Allen also went there with a very raw and direct statement to reporters about his role and expectations. He knows very well that he is not a "Carey Price":
"I will never be in Carey Price's shoes. I'm being raw and direct in telling you this, but I don't have the talent or the level of play. I have my own style and what I have has offered me success.
I won't be someone I'm not. I will be myself. Management appreciates it and I appreciate what they are trying to build."
- Jake Allen
That has the makings of clarity and it's perfect as is! The Montreal Canadiens made a very good move in signing him. They signed a nice contract, with a good goalie and an amazing human being.
Allen also added in closing:
"When I retire, 10 years from now, I hope I can say I was one of the pieces of the puzzle."
We love it! Bravo Jake!
