Jaromir Jagr had a long NHL career that spanned 24 years, and he's even still playing part-time in the Czech Republic. With his playing days not yet over, the former NHL star jokingly offered his services to NHL teams when the free agent market opened this Wednesday.
"NHL GMs- I'm also a free agent, again. 6.3 265...50 years old, slow, but strong, and good hands. Can bring experience and likes to play only at home. Call me anytime. Also, as a hockey club owner in the Czech league (sic) - I'm looking to sign a defenseman, no joke"
Jagr may be joking when it comes to returning to the NHL, but he's still playing on the ice. The former NHL star has continued to play for Kladno, which is the Czech Republic team he also owns. In 43 games during the 2021-22 season, Jagr scored eight goals and recorded 11 assists for a total of 19 points.
The now 50-year-old was the fifth overall pick in the 1990 NHL draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The former NHL winger won the Hart Trophy as the NHL's most valuable player in 1999, while also winning the Art Ross Trophy as the league's top scorer five times.
In 1,733 NHL games, Jagr totaled 766 goals and 1,155 assists while playing for the Penguins, Washington Capitals, New York Rangers, Philadelphia Flyers, Dallas Stars, Devils, Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames. Although he has not played in the NHL since 2017, Jagr is not yet eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame, as he still plays professionally.
