As we reported, Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes was supposed to be at a press conference yesterday at 4pm, but at the last second, while all the journalists were already gathered in the room to wait for him, the CH organization finally announced curiously that everything was cancelled and that more details would follow.
Everyone went back home.
We then learned that Hughes cancelled the whole thing because he was working intensely on some big issues.
On TVA Sports, we learned that the CH did not want to have to hold "two press conferences". Why a second one? Is a major announcement imminent that requires a press conference?
That's what many think, but let's wait and see.
"This is major!" - Eric Fichaud
It's indeed very rare to see this, especially coming from someone like Kent Hughes, who is always so available to the media. (Even at the draft, he offered something like six interviews to Renaud Lavoie)
Stay tuned, but we could have an important announcement from the Montreal Canadiens in the next few minutes or hours.
"It's not surprising that Kent Hughes is still working on files at the moment but for him to move his media availability, they're probably not Rocket-related files, let's put it that way. To be continued!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
We finally have some news. The Habs have confirmed that Kent Hughes will speak to the media today:
