Jesperi Kotkaniemi is no longer popular with fans
Jesperi Kotkaniemi may be leaving the Montreal Canadiens for Carolina to join the Hurricanes. We're talking about revenge for Tom Dundon, who never digested the offer Marc Bergevin made to Sebastian Aho in 2019. However, in the rule books, it is allowed to make an offer to a restricted free agent, even if an unwritten law says that it should not be done!
That being said, for the sake of "KK", Bergevin should perhaps accept the compensation that comes in return since the young Finnish player is likely to be booed if he returns with the group. Fans are harsh, and since Kotkaniemi accepted the offer from the Canes, his rating has most likely dropped in Quebec.
That being said, the TVA Sports website has built a poll to know if Marc Bergevin should match the offer or not... The result is unanimous since 85% of respondents want Bergevin not to match the VERY generous offer that Don Waddell sent to Kotkaniemi' clan. We are talking about more than 4000 fans who responded to the survey.
I would like to remind you that the Habs will receive 1st and 3rd round picks in return for KK. These picks could be used by Marc Bergevin to get a center who can play the second role, like Christian Dvorak, for example. Bergevin is most likely in the process of setting up the box in which he will place his next pick.
