It's no surprise that since his arrival with the Carolina Hurricanes, forward Jesperi Kotkaniemi has not been delivering the goods.
He is becoming more and more efficient defensively, but offensively, it is difficult for him.
However, he just showed a very nice "flash" with a great goal.
He has 21 points in 53 games this season and has two points in 14 games in the most recent NHL playoffs.
For these reasons, he does not seem to be the man the Hurricanes' GM trusts for the upcoming playoffs.
According to what the excellent Marc Denis just mentioned on RDS, the Hurricanes would currently aim to replace Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
Their GM, Don Waddell, would be interested in acquiring a top 9 or top 6 player, precisely in order to replace the Finn on the second line, by the trade deadline.
Having seen his advanced stats recently, you should know that Kotkaniemi is among the worst players in the NHL offensively, but defensively, his numbers are surprising.
"We want someone who will take Kotkaniemi's spot in the top-6 so that Kotkaniemi plays on a lower trio." - Marc Denis
Here are his full remarks here:
Do you think Jesperi Kotkaniemi will ever become a solid 2nd line player?
