I never thought I would question the leadership of Jonathan Toews, who I consider to be one of the three greatest captains of his generation... but now, unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
Toews was aware of the situation and the sexual abuse of Kyle Beach, but his focus and the focus of the entire team was ONLY on hockey. Because in this prehistoric world, hockey is more important than people!
Here is part of what Toews said about this sad story:
"We wish we could have done something different, myself included. My heart goes out to Kyle for what he handled. I wish I could have done something. It's not an excuse in hindsight, but the truth is that many of us were focused solely on hockey!"
Unbelievable... Reading that statement just takes the words right out of my mouth! It's hard not to lose respect for Toews after reading his dialogue.
The plan he should have from here on out is to do everything he can to support Beach, instead of offering support to Stan Bowman and Al MacIsaac, for example. Toews doesn't understand why they had to resign. Come on, buddy!
With this very sad story, the Hawks are not out of the woods!
