Last night, the Calgary Flames sent the Dallas Stars on vacation after an incredible game that they won 3-2 after leading 67-28 in shots on net. Wow!
We told you about it last week, but the outcome of this series had an impact on the Montreal Canadiens organization.
As my colleague Alex Desrosiers (Rumeursdetransaction.com) reports, the further the Flames advance in the NHL playoffs, the further away the team's first-round pick, now owned by the Montreal Canadiens, will be.
Indeed, let's remember that the Flames' first-round pick was acquired earlier this season by Kent Hughes and the Tricolore in the trade involving Tyler Toffoli.
Full transaction :
MONTREAL - Flames first round pick + Tyler Pitlick + a fifth round pick + prospect Emil Heineman.
CALGARY - Tyler Toffoli.
Right now, because the Flames finished at the very top of their division, they have the 29th overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft. But, the further they get into the playoffs, the further their pick (the CH's) goes backwards.
If they had lost in the first round to the Stars, the pick would have immediately become 28th overall, with the possibility of going even higher, depending on the outcome of the other rounds and series.
It's small spots that the CH can gain here, but it can make a big difference in the end.
Let's mention that Toffoli scored a very big goal yesterday in the important win for his team. (1 goal - 1 assist in this series) His Flames will now face the Edmonton Oilers and we will be treated to the mythical battle of Alberta.
