On June 30, 2019, Marc Bergevin decided to take Nicolas Deslauriers out of his band, for reasons still unknown so far. «Deslo» was sent to Anaheim in return for a 4th round pick in 2020, which became Brandon Coe.
But why did you pull such an element out of a group? Why did you pull out a guy who leaves his guts on the rink? The kind of guy you can use as an example to develop a culture, even if he's just a forward mostly used as support on the ice.
In Anaheim, «Deslo» dropped the gloves to defend and protect his teammates. The Quebecer did it again yesterday, against Kurtis MacDermid, demonstrating so much character (once again).
That said, did you know that Kent Hughes was Deslauriers' former agent? According to information from MO Beaudoin, the two men would have maintained an excellent relationship. He will become UFA at the end of this season, will Hughes bring it home?
Not to change the game, but to bring this dose of culture, character and commitment to forge the future identity of the club.
You should also know that Benoît Groulx, now coach of the Syracuse Crunch, coached «Deslo» at the junior level and he called him «Horse».
In the end, I take it back at any time since in my eyes, it was a mistake to exchange it for a vulgar choice of 4th round.
