According to what was reported by Michael Russo, journalist assigned to cover the Minnesota Wild, Kirill Kaprizov would have a new contract in his pocket. The deal would be for five seasons, worth $9 million annually. The terms of the contract structure would still be under development.
This has to be a relief for both parties, considering all the rumors that have been swirling around Kaprizov. According to several sources, there would have been a big chance that the Russian forward would return to Russia, if he and the Wild could not come to an agreement. This was obviously a method of negotiation from the Kaprizov camp.
Recall that Kaprizov was a fifth-round pick of the Wild in the 2015 NHL draft. Last year, in his first season in the Bettman circuit, he accumulated a total of 51 points, including 27 goals, in 55 games. He added three points in seven playoff games. He also won the Calder Trophy, awarded to the NHL's rookie of the year.
