Let's remember the first season that Jonathan Drouin played in Montreal in 2017-2018. The Montreal team was short on resources, so they decided to play him at center, since he had gained experience at that position at the junior level.
History could repeat itself in 2021-2022. The Montreal Canadiens are potentially losing the services of Jesperi Kotkaniemi and they lost Phillip Danault to the Los Angeles Kings. The Montreal team will have to find a solution, so that Jake Evans or Ryan Poehling won't have the heavy task of becoming the second center, considering the little experience they have in the NHL.
Pierre Houde may have found the solution. Is it significant? One has to wonder.
Pierre Houde jokingly asked Jonathan Drouin if he was ready to come back to center, if the opportunity arose. The Quebecer gave an answer that obviously surprised the Canadiens' commentator.
"I asked him jokingly and he said, 'Yes, I would.' And he was very serious."
Drouin is likely willing to do anything to help the team, but is it really THE answer? Drouin just got back into the Canadiens fold, he'll have enough pressure this year. Let's not give him the stress of returning to a position he wasn't totally comfortable in. Let's leave him on the wing please!
