In a very interesting exclusive interview just shared by the excellent journalist Anthony Martineau of TVA Sports, Montreal Canadiens prospect Logan Mailloux "tells his story for the very first time".
It's really interesting.
In his very first interview with a reporter since being drafted by the Habs in 2021, Mailloux broke the silence.
Prior to this one, Mailloux's team had routinely declined any interview requests, but now he was finally able to tell his story, as Martineau reports.
Mailloux began by sending a strong message to the fans.
"I want to thank all the Canadiens fans who have supported me for the past year and a half and who have stayed with me. You have helped me. I know it hasn't always been easy, but I really appreciate it. Now I just want to bring the Stanley Cup back to Montreal."
- Logan Mailloux, who adds that he wants to continue practicing his French so he can always address Habs fans in their language.
He also talked about his family. He has an older sister who plays in the NCAA, his father is a retired police officer and his mother is a real estate agent.
The offensive defenseman wanted by the Habs?
Mailloux is unequivocal. The one who already has 17 goals, and 36 points in 38 games with the London Knights believes he is the offensive defenseman so sought after by the Montreal Canadiens.
"Yes, I really think I'm the offensive defenseman that CH fans are looking for and I intend to do everything I can to get there."
- Logan Mailloux
He compares himself to defensemen like Seth Jones and Brent Burns. Mark Hunter, his GM, adds a layer to that:
"I think his NHL production will be between 40 and 60 points, depending on how good the group is offensively from year to year. Quite frankly, Canadiens fans have every reason to be excited about Logan."
We love it! Mailloux also wants to mention that no one scares him on the ice and he will never hesitate to jump up to help or defend a teammate.
Finally, Mailloux tells the story of his dream day:
On October 5, Logan Mailloux, against all odds, signed his first NHL contract. He obviously hasn't forgotten any of the details of that day.
"Kent Hughes called me to his office at the beginning of camp and told me he wanted to make my association with the team official before I left for London. I couldn't stop smiling! That moment really warmed my heart. My parents were also very excited! They have been there for me from the beginning and have made so many sacrifices!"
- Logan Mailloux
