The Colorado Avalanche are returning to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time since 2001, but judging by the team's reaction after winning the Clarence Campbell Trophy last night, they have no intention of simply making the finals. This team wants to win the Cup and anything else is unacceptable.
While the Avs went against tradition and actually touched the trophy they won on Monday, they did have some big discussions about it and it was the big boss, Joe Sakic, who finally made the final decision.
The Avalanche players didn't exactly celebrate their victory. In fact, Colorado forward Nathan MacKinnon made sure to remind everyone that there was no smiling allowed in the team photo.
See it all down here:
This is a pretty drastic rule and let's hope for them that they can smile in the near future with a Cup in their arms.
MacKinnon is well known for his toughness and intensity, talk to Nikita Zadorov. The former Avalanche defenseman once explained that MacKinnon was quite controlling and demanding with his teammates on and off the ice and even compared him to superstar Michael Jordan.
Like Jordan, MacKinnon demands perfection from his teammates in practice and in lifestyle habits. For him, alcohol, pasta and ice cream are unacceptable.
