On Monday night, Artturi Lehkonen played the hero in overtime by scoring the winning goal that will take the Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup Grand Final.
Lehkonen became the second player in NHL history to score twice in overtime to send his team to the Stanley Cup Finals. Last year, the Finn scored the winning goal, also in overtime, to eliminate the Vegas Golden Knights and propel the CH to the Stanley Cup Final.
After the game, everyone had nothing but good words for the former Canadiens' player, including Nathan MacKinnon. MacKinnon gave a great compliment to his teammate, which proves the value of Lehkonen in an NHL organization.
"that's why you trade for guys like that at the deadline; yeah, I'd trade 10 first-rounders for him right now - we'll all be gone when those guys come into the League anyways so" - Nathan MacKinnon
At the last trade deadline, Kent Hughes traded Lehkonen to Colorado for Justin Barron and a 2nd round pick in the 2024 draft. If Barron is promising, we can say that Lehkonen, well surrounded in Colorado, offers excellent services to his new team. He is, as we mentioned in the article below, very appreciated in his new city.
Here is the audio clip from MacKinnon:
