Images of Patrice Bergeron in tears after the elimination of the Boston Bruins on Sunday night have moved many people. Many believe that this was the Quebecois veteran's last run in the NHL and that he will announce his retirement soon.
However, the man himself did not close the door on returning to play next season after the game. He will take stock this summer, with a clear head, with his family and loved ones on the subject.
A major statement from Yvon Pedneault regarding Bergeron and the Montreal Canadiens
In the event of a definitive retirement from the veteran player, Yvon Pedneault has a rather surprising suggestion for what comes next for him. He would like Kent Hughes to use his friendship with his former client to bring him back to the Canadiens organization as a resource person.
"Regardless of the decision he makes, the Patrice Bergeron case should furnish discussions among the Canadiens' decision-makers. An organization with a history as impressive as the Tricolore should never miss the opportunity to surround itself with influential people." - Yvon Pedneault
If you think the Quebecois is destined to accept a position in the Bruins organization when he retires from hockey, Pedneault has another idea on the subject. He cites Vincent Lecavalier, who also had everything to be a lifetime Lightning.
See what the journalist had to say about it:
"Bergeron's shining profile and the impact he has had and continues to have in the world of hockey deserve serious consideration. He is an ambassador for his sport. He is a resource person for the leaders of the National League. Throughout his career, he has served his sport with great professionalism.
Last year, Geoff Molson and his group did not hesitate to consider Vincent Lecavalier. Shouldn't they include Patrice Bergeron's name in their future plans?
It will be said that he is a full-fledged member of the Boston Bruins, we all agree. However, when an athlete's career comes to an end, priorities sometimes change, especially if one is offered a challenge that corresponds to projects one would like to undertake in a completely new role." - Yvon Pedneault
There is no doubt that having Patrice Bergeron in the Canadiens organization would be a significant asset. However, it would be surprising if this were to happen in the near future, even if he retires from hockey this summer. He will need time to let the dust settle and think about what he really wants for his future.
