Minnesota Wild fans certainly breathed a sigh of relief on Monday when they learned that their star forward, Kirill Kaprizov, had landed safely in the United States.
Kaprizov was denied entry to the United States twice this offseason and was forced to return to his home country. The report at the time was that Kaprizov did not have a valid work visa, but that the Russian-American Consulate would expedite his case to get him back to America. Then...he was again denied entry.
Kaprizov had been accused of acquiring a fake military ID in 2017 to avoid mandatory service, and that ID had reportedly expired, making Kaprizov eligible for the military. So Kaprizov remained in his native country, a country currently at war with Ukraine, and no one was sure how he would get to America.
Executive Director Bill Guerin spoke with Wild informant Michael Russo last week and mentioned his concern in this matter.
It appears that everything worked out in the end. According to Russo, Kaprizov landed safely and cleared customs earlier today. He is expected to arrive in Minnesota this Tuesday.
