According to Perron, if Bergevin were to leave, it wouldn't be as big a loss as people think. The Canadiens' boss would be an individual who would take a lot of space in the organization, which would be very disturbing. He even believes that Bergevin will not be back in 2022-2023. Probably by mutual agreement.
As we all know, being the general manager of the Montreal Canadiens comes with major pressure. Perron obviously doesn't believe that Bergevin will be able to handle it for much longer, especially due to a situation that occurred this summer.
Apparently, during a round of golf where there were important people, Marc Bergevin would have gone crazy following a mistake made by himself. He would have demolished his clubs and gotten very angry publicly. A small proof that the patience of our general manager is at its peak? It is a possibility.
Perron went on to mention that perhaps Patrick Roy's name could be considered, assuming Bergevin leaves for other climes. He concluded his speech by talking about Logan Mailloux, which would not have been unanimously approved by Geoff Molson, who made his general manager feel that he wanted more francophones in his club.
Is this why Bergevin hired so many Quebecers this summer? Because of some kind of pressure from his boss? Would it have been better if Bergevin had traded up in the July draft to select a Quebecer like Zachary Bolduc, Xavier Bourgault or even Zachary L'Heureux, instead of drafting a controversial individual like Logan Mailloux? Maybe. There seems to be an overflow within the organization, which seems to be a distraction internally.
Do you think Marc Bergevin will be back next year? A departure would seem imminent according to Jean Perron.
