However, as reported by David St-Jean of Marqueur.com, Marchand had some rather interesting things to say about teams tending to name a captain at a very young age, as was the case with Nick Suzuki with the Habs a few days ago.
To say the least, Marchand is not a fan of naming a youngster like Suzuki as captain:
Marchand, saying this only days after Nick Suzuki was named, you can guess it's getting a huge reaction and not everyone is happy about it.
The 23-year-old No. 14 became the youngest captain in Habs history, but unlike some Habs fans, some pundits are more in agreement with the Bruins' little pest.
While guys like Sidney Crosby, Connor McDavid and Jonathan Toews have had success as team captains at a young age, it's been harder for other players, like Jack Eichel with the Buffalo Sabres.
But in Suzuki's case, he's 23 years old, whereas in his comments, Marchand referred to captains named at 20, 21 and 22 (but we understand the principle).
As for the CH's new young captain, Suzuki is already in his fourth season with the Habs and is undoubtedly an undisputed leader in the dressing room.
Was Marchand referring to Suzuki in his comments?
Maybe so, maybe he's not entirely wrong when he mentions that naming a captain at such a young age could have a negative effect on the player in question, but as they say in this situation, it's case by case, and Suzuki really does seem to be ready!
