When the hiring process for the Habs' next general manager was underway, Jeff Gorton was not allowed to talk to Martin Madden Jr.

His team, the Anaheim Ducks, wanted to keep him in their organization because of the GM position that was also available.

That's all in the past as the Ducks announced earlier Thursday that Pat Verbeek has been named general manager.

This means that the Tricolore's senior management could now have the chance to meet with Madden in order to offer him a choice position within the organization.

The 51-year-old was the head scout with the Ducks for 12 seasons. Madden has a lot of experience in finding talented young players in junior.

A trio of Hughes, Gorton and Madden at the helm of the Montreal Canadiens would be more than interesting. The three men have different qualities that could complement each other perfectly.

While the position of head scout is still vacant in Montreal following the dismissal of Trevor Timmins, it will be interesting to follow how this turns out.

It must be said that this position is crucial, especially in the Montreal market, where all actions are scrutinized. The Habs have had too many mistakes in the draft in recent years and no longer have the right to make mistakes.

Madden, who has worked as a scout, seems to be a candidate of choice for this position.
