In the last few seconds and following his team's morning practice, Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis was at a press conference and announced some surprising news.

Turnaround.

This morning, defenseman Mike Matheson was practicing 100% with his teammates, with contact, and all indications were that he would return to play (this is normally the very last step in the process)

Some media outlets even said that it was confirmed and that Matheson would return to the game this weekend.

On that note, St. Louis just announced that while Matheson was a full go for today's practice, he won't be in uniform after all, not tomorrow or Sunday.

Still, it's surprising that Matheson has already been ruled out of the lineup for Sunday, but hey, we'd imagine he'll be back in the game sooner rather than later.

In any case, don't count on Matheson for (at least) the next two games:

"Martin St. Louis says Mike Matheson won't play this weekend."

- Montreal Canadiens

There are some positives, however:

"Coach Martin St. Louis says Mike Matheson won't be ready to play this weekend in New York, but goalie Jake Allen could be ready to play." - Stu Cowan

File to follow. The CH faces the Islanders in New York tomorrow at 7 p.m. and the Rangers in New York on Sunday at 5 p.m.
