We told you about it in the last few minutes, the New York Rangers have just taken the hockey world by surprise by deciding to relegate their first overall pick of 2020, Alexis Lafreniere, to their fourth line.
It's a decision that is causing a huge reaction.
In reaction to this, popular observer Brian Wilde raised a monster trade proposal involving the Rangers and the Montreal Canadiens.
Here is his proposal:
"Would you trade Lafreniere for the Canadiens' first round pick, which is Florida's (meaning the Rangers could potentially win the lottery)?" - Brian Wilde
Out of nearly 3,000 votes, almost 74% of respondents prefer to keep the Panthers' first round pick over a potential acquisition of Lafreniere.
What about you, what would you do?
Lafreniere, 21, was drafted 1st overall in 2020. He has 17 points in 36 games this season (69 points in 171 career NHL games)
Check out some of the reactions:
"I wouldn't." - Costa Rontzocos
"I would (if the choice is) top 2 protected!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin
That last suggestion isn't naughty. It would mean that, if the Panthers' pick becomes a top-2 pick overall, he would be protected.
There are really a number of reactions, so we'll leave it to you to go analyze all of this.
To the Canadiens - Alexis Lafreniere
To the Rangers - 2023 first round pick of the Panthers
Would you accept?
