The 2021-2022 season could be highly interesting for the Montreal Canadiens. Yes, the Habs lost some big pieces, but the future of the team looks very bright with Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield and Jesperi Kotkaniemi.
The NHL Network has released a list of players who could have their breakout season in 2021-2022 and Cole Caufield is in that top-9. The young American is fourth on the list, just behind Jack Hughes, Alexis Lafrenière and Kirby Dach.
With such a prediction, what can we expect from our Cole? He has been compared many times to Chicago Blackhawks forward Alex DeBrincat. In his first full NHL campaign, DeBrincat, who was 19 years old, scored 28 goals and 52 points. Remember that he was paired with a certain Patrick Kane, however. Caufield already has an interesting background in the NHL, he was a big part of the Habs' playoff success. He'll be merging with Nick Suzuki this year, which could make for some offensive sparks.
The former Wisconsin Badgers star could clearly have a similar first season in the NHL as DeBrincat. Nick Suzuki may not be Patrick Kane, but his playmaking skills are exceptional, which will greatly help Caufield. Could he put up 50 points and score 25-30 goals? He certainly could!
