With less than a month to go before the opening of the Habs' training camp, fans are anxious to see their favorite team and especially to see a certain Juraj Slafkovsky in action.

However, it should be mentioned that there will also be a few new faces like Kirby Dach, Michael Matheson and new acquisition Sean Monahan. Moreover, the arrival of the latter means that there is currently a surplus of forwards for the Habs and that Kent Hughes will probably have to sacrifice one of them between now and the start of camp on September 22.

Among the players likely to leave by then, we find the center Christian Dvorak, but as we had mentioned recently, his value is not very high at the moment and some sources have even said that the best the Habs can get in return is a third round pick.

At that price, we might as well keep him. We recall that Dvorak was acquired last year from the Arizona Coyotes in return for a first (2022) and second round (2024) pick, a first round pick that was obtained in compensation for the loss of Jesperi Kotkaniemi to the Carolina Hurricanes.

On the other hand, tipster Jimmy Murphy of Montreal Hockey Now mentioned that another source revealed to him that the American forward's value could increase during the season due to the fact that the style of play that Martin St. Louis advocates would benefit him and that Dvorak could then interest a team looking for a depth player.

Good news for Kent Hughes and the CH (from this third source).

The source in question also mentioned that #28's end of the season under the Habs' new head coach helped him greatly and that it wouldn't be surprising if Kent Hughes was able to possibly get a second round pick in a potential trade, if a portion of Dvorak's salary was paid by the Habs.

Dvorak still has three years left on his contract, including the upcoming season, with an annual salary of $4.5 million.

Considering that the Habs are rebuilding and that the team may not be very competitive before the end of his contract, could Kent Hughes afford the luxury of letting him go if he is able to get a good draft pick in return for number 28?

It's an option that could be very interesting if ever a Kirby Dach could reach his full potential with the Habs and Sean Monahan could find his touch, but as they say, with ifs, we go to Paris.

What do you think?
