It's been over a month and a half since the NHL's free agent market opened, and yet several well-known names are still out there.

In the last few weeks, Paul Stastny (Hurricanes) and Phil Kessel (Golden Knights) have been signed, while young forward Jonathan Dahlen (Europe) is no longer available.

You can see the full list here (from Marco Normandin), but we decided to identify for you, more specifically, the top right-handed defensemen who are free as a bird.

Why? Because Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton (Montreal Canadiens) have made it very clear that this is their priority, between now and the start of next season. They want to add another right-handed defenseman.

The CH's next acquisition could be a right-handed defenseman. It could be through a trade, a trade-in, or a free agent signing.

Here is the list of the best right-handed defensemen that are still available on the free-agent market as we approach the beginning of the camps:

1 - PK Subban - DD
2 - Anton Stralman - DD
3 - Kris Russell - GM
4 - Keith Yandle - GM
5 - Ryan Murray - GM
6 - Calvin de Haan-DG
7 - Chase Priskie-DD
8 - Nathan Beaulieu-DG

*Please note that the left-handed defensemen on this list have all previously played right-handed.

Expect a few names on this list to have to settle for a professional tryout. Which one would be your number one target, for the Montreal Canadiens?

Money is no longer an issue for Kent Hughes, following the Carey Price announcement. (Not to sign any of the names on this list, anyway) One thing is for sure, the options are limited, so this will be really interesting to watch as a record.
