With the future of captain Shea Weber more uncertain than ever, many wondered if the Montreal Canadiens would name an interim captain to replace Weber for next season.
Present at a press conference today, General Manager Marc Bergevin was quite straightforward when asked, needing only one word to reveal his intentions on the matter.
From Marc Bergevin's point of view, there is not anyone other than Weber wearing the Canadiens captain's "C" on his jersey in the near future. Veterans like Brendan Gallagher and Jeff Petry will have to wait to see their turn, as they would have been good candidates to play the role of interim captain, at least while waiting to see the evolution of Shea Weber's health.
Remember that the latter's professional career is currently in jeopardy due to various injuries to his ankle, foot, knee and thumb, among others. Marc Bergevin had even announced in July that Weber had most likely played his last game in the National Hockey League.
