Official: Hughes has finally resolved a major issue in front of the Canadiens' net, and a trade is now being explored for Jake Allen
As reported by Marco Normandin, the excellent Martin McGuire made a very good point yesterday on the airwaves of 98.5 FM.
With the contract extension signed with Samuel Montembeault, and with his performances, Kent Hughes would have already settled the number one goalie issue.
"The big question is not whether Montembeault is number one. He is number one. It's not about whether he can play 50, 55 games next year. He will." - Martin McGuire
So, what is the question? What is Kent Hughes waiting for?
Yes, the #1 goalie issue is resolved, but he must now determine if Cayden Primeau can be his #2 goalie. That is the real question hanging in the air.
"The big question is to find out as quickly as possible if Cayden Primeau can play 30 games a year." - Martin McGuire
Primeau's upcoming games will therefore be very important. The leaders will try to judge if he can be Montembeault's next backup, which will also resolve the Jake Allen issue at the same time.
To be continued!
