Before Thursday night's game between the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins, Alex Ovechkin showed tremendous respect for his opponent, Kristopher Letang.
This was Letang's second game since returning from injury, and also the first game against the Capitals since he was injured in early December last year. Not to mention the fact that he had to deal with the loss of his father.
Ovechkin, like a good veteran, made sure during warm-ups that everything was fine with the Penguins' defenseman.
It's great to see the respect Ovechkin shows for a long-time rival in Letang. Despite their desire to win, professional athletes have tremendous respect for each other.
In his return to action last Tuesday against the Panthers, Letang scored 2 goals and had 2 assists. He also scored the winning goal in overtime. He was kept off the score sheet Thursday night, but Alex Ovechkin scored a goal like only he can in a 3-2 Capitals home win in Washington.
