Earlier this week, social networks were abuzz with reports that Patrick Roy was spotted at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard, at the same time that Montreal Canadiens executives were there.
Subsequently, TVA Sports tipster Renaud Lavoie confirmed that Roy did spend time with Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton.
"Patrick Roy was indeed at the Bell Sports Complex in Brossard yesterday for a courtesy call. Alumni of the organization are invited to meet with players and members of the organization and Patrick Roy also spent time with Jeff Gorton and Kent Hughes."
- Renaud Lavoie, TVA Sports
While all sorts of rumors were circulating, Patrick Roy finally broke the silence today on this famous meeting.
Here is his answer, as reported by Kevin Dubé of the Journal de Québec:
"It doesn't take much, obviously [for social media to go wild]. I went to dinner with my son Frederick in Brossard. I've always had a good relationship with Kent Hughes, so afterwards I just went to say hello."
And that's it! However, we want to add here that we must take his answer with a tiny grain of salt, knowing that he had already denied being involved in the selection process of the new director of the Montreal Canadiens, last year, and he had denied having met the CH bosses to that effect (when he had indeed met them).
Roy later explained that he denied it because he didn't know if he was allowed to talk about it.
So, in conclusion, we are not saying that Roy is lying and that the rumors should be put to rest, but we are only mentioning that it would not be the first time that the great Patrick answers like that, lightly, and we consider that it is still realistic to think that he could eventually be entrusted with a role within the Montreal Canadiens organization.
To be continued!
