It's now official, Kent Hughes is the new Montreal Canadiens general manager. He will work hand in hand with executive vice president of hockey operations Jeff Gorton to fix the team.

There were many candidates for this prestigious title. Mathieu Darche, Daniel Brière and Marc Denis, among others, were heard from time and time again.

However, the one who seemed to be the favorite among Habs fans was obviously Patrick Roy. The Quebec Remparts general manager had publicly stated, a few weeks earlier, that he was very interested in the position.

Today, the latter made a point of congratulating the Habs' new GM with a lot of class.

In any case, Roy did not meet with the media following the Remparts' practice. He only sent out this press release because he wanted to leave all the room for the arrival of Kent Hughes, who will meet the media on Wednesday.

In short, he did not want to steal the show. What could this mean? Would the former Tricolore star have some bitterness towards the organization for not selecting him? This is the second time in ten years that Roy has been passed over for the Habs' GM job.

He has always had a habit of making big splashes in front of the media when he has something to say. Of course, this is all speculation, but it is very surprising to see Patrick Roy take the low profile route. His brief statement could be interpreted as a form of disappointment.
