It concerns Pierre-Luc Dubois' future with the Winnipeg Jets.
Dubois, 23, is currently a restricted free agent and we have just learned that he has informed Winnipeg of his future intentions.
This is definitely not what Jets management and fans wanted.
Dubois just told them that he plans to test the free agent market in 2024, two years from now. Basically, he doesn't want to sign a contract longer than two years with the Jets and expect his run in Winnipeg to end in the summer of 2024.
As soon as Dubois has the opportunity to leave Winnipeg, via free agents, he will obviously do so. Of course, the Jets would like to keep Dubois for the long term:
But this is not his intention and therefore, a transaction could become inevitable in this file. No team wants to lose a player of this caliber "for nothing", especially knowing, two years in advance, that he wants to leave.
Is it time for Kent Hughes and the CH to jump on the opportunity? You be the judge, but one thing is for sure, unless there is a major turnaround, we should expect to see Dubois' name come back on the trade market.
Remember that last year, the Jets had to part with Patrik Laine and Jack Roslovic to acquire Dubois (from Columbus).
