We told you about it recently, several insiders, including Elliotte Friedman, of Sportsnet, believe that the Canadians could trade Shea Weber. (or rather, his contract on the long-term injured list, considering his career is likely over)
Some teams that might need room on their payroll, with their LTIR, might be interested. Others might want him too, so they can hit the NHL salary cap floor.
There are options.
The Habs could even have a rather interesting return by trading Weber's contract.
For example, Julien BriseBois, of the Lightning, acquired the contract of Brent Seabrook last summer from the Chicago Blackhawks. In return, Chicago received: center Tyler Johnson and a second-round pick.
Not bad!
Tampa Bay then had a big problem with the salary cap at the time and they literally gave away Johnson, with the intention of putting Seabrook on the long-term injured list (LTIR) until 2024. They also added a pretty good pick.
We could therefore hope for a similar return, in exchange for Weber. Would you like Kent Hughes to do that kind of trade?
