In the last few minutes, the normally very reliable insider David Pagnotta (The Fourth Period) has posted this:

"I'm told the Blackhawks are engaged in trade discussions with teams about Patrick Kane. Dallas is among the teams most recently interested." - Pagnotta

The kind of message that informants normally put out when talks get serious, and usually the player in question is traded not long after.

On the other hand, minutes after Pagnotta's post, another extremely reliable tipster (Mark Lazerus, who covers Blackhawks activities for The Athletic) posted this:

"According to one source, the Blackhawks have had NO discussions for a trade with teams involving Patrick Kane. I'm sure many teams are interested and sniffing around, but nothing is happening." - Mark Lazerus

Let's just say we don't see this too often and it's the battle of the sources. One thing's for sure, we'll probably have a better idea of the situation by the time the season starts, but it's really strange. Who to believe?

Let's remember what Andy Strickland said yesterday:

"Someone told me, 'Watch out for the Dallas Stars. They're looking to make a splash and someone threw Patrick Kane's name at me about the Stars. Chicago should probably eat some money, but I had a little birdie tell me, 'watch out for the Stars'." - Andy Strickland

One thing for sure, this would be huge!

As of today, the Stars have $11.46M in free space under the salary cap according to Capfriendly. That means they have enough room to accommodate Kane's $10.5M salary for one more season.

Stay tuned! Kane, drafted first overall in 2007, is 33 years old and has 92 points in 78 games with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2021-22.
