Now that the Pittsburgh Penguins are eliminated from the NHL playoffs and are on vacation, all eyes are on the big decisions that are coming for them.

They have three star players who could become free agents this summer, three star players they could lose without receiving anything in return.

We're talking about forwards Bryan Rust and Evgeni Malkin, plus defenseman Kris Letang.

On that subject, there is some news!

Elliotte Friedman, from Sportsnet, has made a big interesting update of his information regarding these three files. According to Friedman, general manager Ron Hextall is reportedly aiming for a three-season deal with Malkin (to follow Sidney Crosby), but the two sides aren't close to a deal.

As for Rust, negotiations are going well and appear to be progressing.

However, the biggest problem for them remains Kris Letang. Discussions are at a standstill and they are far from a pact. Still according to Sportsnet's informant, the defenseman could really leave Pittsburgh.

"They are not on the same page at all." - Friedman

Recall that Letang's good friend Renaud Lavoie has hinted several times that Kristopher might actually land in Montreal.

We're starting to believe it. To be continued!

As Alex Desrosiers (Rumeursdetransaction.com) summarizes, in 60 games this season, Rust had a masterful season with 58 points. In addition, he has added eight points in seven playoff games.

His salary was $3.5M this season and he will command a major raise.

Defenseman Kris Letang also had a very good season with 68 points in 78 games.

Finally, Malkin had 42 points in 41 games.
