The Habs prospect is off to a good start in Laval, collecting six points, including a goal yesterday, in seven games. Remember that the number 25 did not have an exceptional training camp with the big club, hence his relegation to the AHL. The main character seems to be on the lookout for what went wrong for him in the past. He has admitted his wrongdoings quite transparently.
Poehling resigned himself and did exactly what Habs management asked him to do, which earned him a recall.
"I just got back to my game and played well. My training camp didn't go exactly the way I wanted it to. I had a good talk with Berg and the coaching staff, and I went out there and did exactly what they asked, and that's why I got recalled," Poehling explained. "Obviously there were some injuries, but I just want to take what I did there and try to carry it over into my game here in the NHL. Hopefully I can do that."
The beautiful environment in Laval has been greatly beneficial in finding his rhythm and confidence.
"I think I've gotten more involved. Laval is a great place. It's a place I like. I like the guys. The coaching staff is great and I think we've bonded as a group," said Poehling. "I've enjoyed playing. I like competing with others and dominating other teams. That's what has made the biggest difference for me."
The American admitted that confidence was a major aspect of getting to where he is now.
"I just have full confidence in myself. That's the most important thing. You have to understand why you got here and you just have to trust yourself as a player," added Poehling, who will be playing in his first NHL game since February 4, 2020. "I've done a good job of that, and it's paid off."
Poehling also shared a rather comical anecdote about his recall. Let's just say he'll think twice about taking the subway to his games in the future. A big thank you to Josh Brook!
