With only eight wins in 38 games this season, Habs fans wish for far more team losses than victories. And the reason is very simple! It is in order to have the best chances of getting the first pick of the 2022 draft.
However, we must not forget that the March 21 trade deadline is fast approaching. Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton will have a lot of work ahead of them to rebuild this team that competed in the Stanley Cup final last summer.
In the coming weeks, it could be interesting to score a lot of goals and win a few games in order to increase the market value of some players who could leave the ship by March 21.
This could go a long way to helping the two CH managers to get more in return from some assets like Ben Chiarot, Artturi Lehkonen and Tyler Toffoli. While the first pick at the 2022 draft is important, there is no guarantee that the Habs will win the lottery by finishing last in the overall standings. So we must not lose at all costs!
