At the time of writing, the CH currently has a 12.1% chance of winning the draft by virtue of their 31st overall position.
But what we're interested in here is to get a better idea of the top prospects available, but also to see which active NHL player we could compare them to.
As reported by Marco Normandin of Habsolumentfan.com; NHL.com reporter Mike G. Morreale has put together a piece with a compilation of the NHL comparison of some of the top prospects that will be available in the 2022 auction, produced by the league's Central Scouting Office.
Center Shane Wright, who is playing this year for the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Junior League, is considered the top prospect and is compared to none other than Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins.
Morreale says Wright's field hockey sense, as well as his shot, are two of his best assets, both of which are essential qualities for a top-notch forward.
This season, Wright scored 84 points in 58 games and was part of the Canadian team at the last World Junior Championship last December in Edmonton, of course before the tournament was shut down due to the pandemic and postponed until next August.
But if the Habs don't win the lottery and can't select the young center, Morreale's comparisons to other prospects are very promising.
For example, Logan Cooley, the second best prospect, is being compared to Mitch Marner of the Toronto Maple Leafs, while the Swede, Joakim Kemell, has been identified as a future David Pastrnak.
We agree that Bergeron, Marner and Pastrnak are among the NHL's elite.
