The Quebec goaltender was very solid in front of his team's cage Monday night against the Winnipeg Jets, and as my colleague Christian Matte of Marqueur.com reports, he declared after the game his intentions for the rest of his NHL career. And Montembeault was clear in his words, it is in Montreal that he wants to play.
Dany Dubé, the Canadiens' game analyst for 98.5, made an interesting point about the Quebec goalie.
Mario Langlois added afterwards that Montembeault's NHL potential had not yet been reached and that he still had a lot to ride.
It now remains to be seen what Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton's plans are for the Quebec goalie, considering that Price will be back at 100% next year, as will Jake Allen.
This would mean that Montembeault would be the organization's third goaltender for the 2022-2023 season and it's pretty rare for a team to keep three goalies in their lineup.
But if another team shows interest in Montembeault and the offer is right for the Habs, could he change his mind and continue his NHL career?
It's hard to say at this time of the year, because we still don't know what the Canadiens' goaltending roster will be when the team opens training camp in September, but it's an issue that will be interesting to follow over the next few months.
