In the end, the Habs GM selected Juraj Slafkovsky instead, while Wright slipped to fourth overall, only to be selected by the Seattle Kraken. In hindsight, the Habs made the right decision in drafting the Slovakian winger, as they have a head start on the Kraken's center.
Slafkovsky has already scored two goals while Wright has been limited to just one assist. But it's the usage time of the two young prospects that has been the talk of the town lately, even though Wright has been left out of a few games.
As Keven Mawn of Fanadiens.com reports, some of his family members aren't too happy with the turn of events.
Indeed, that's the case of Shane Wright's grandparents who made the trip to Seattle where they found their grandson was not in uniform. Incidentally, this unfortunate situation was mentioned by insider Elliotte Friedman on his podcast 32 Thoughts.
Friedman also reminds us that there is a lot of frustration on this issue, and that comes from both sides.
Put yourself in the shoes of any member of Shane Wright's family, you spend a lot of money to come and see him play and in the end he's not even in uniform. It's easy to understand the frustration of the grandparents.
Beyond the simple fact of not being dressed, the situation surrounding Wright is starting to be awfully embarrassing for the organization, as it is crucial for an 18 year old to get as much ice time as possible to develop to his full potential.
At this point, shouldn't the Seattle Kraken return the youngster to the Kingston Frontenacs junior team?
