It's now done, defenseman Jordan Harris has finally signed his first professional contract with the Montreal Canadiens. It is a two season deal that is effective this year.
The fans of the Tricolore will finally be able to see the one who is considered one of the best prospects of the team on defense, but according to Grant MCCagg, we could have never seen Harris wearing the uniform of the Habs.
As reported by Raphael Simard of Danslescoulisses.com, the former NHL scout is convinced that the American defenseman would never have signed with Montreal under Marc Bergevin.
The change in management has really changed everything in this file.
He even claims that his chances of signing a contract were virtually nil, but since the new management was hired, there has been a sense of optimism in Harris' case.
Kent Hughes and Martin St. Louis have strong ties to the young Massachusetts native, as Hughes' and St. Louis' sons played with Harris at Northeastern University.
If the Habs had not been able to sign Harris by this summer, he would have become an uncompensated free agent and the organization would have lost him for absolutely nothing.
A third-round pick in the 2018 draft, Jordan Harris has 20 points in 39 games this season with Northeastern University, and it's still unclear when he will make his debut in a Habs uniform.
