While the first round of the NHL playoffs is underway (without the Montreal Canadiens, unfortunately), there are still impacts on the Tricolore.

In particular, there is a small stake for Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton, if we look at the Stars-Flames series.

Last night, with a 4-2 win, Dallas took a 2-1 lead in their series against Calgary. It's obviously far from over, but as Christian Matte (Marqueur.com) very well noted, please note that a Stars win, against the Flames, in the first round could help Montreal.

Why?

Right now, because the Flames finished at the very top of their division, they have the 29th overall pick in the upcoming NHL draft.

However, if they lose in the first round to the Stars, the pick will become 28th overall, with a possibility of going up a bit more, depending on the outcome of the other rounds.

Remember of course that this first round pick of the Flames now belongs to the Montreal Canadiens, following the Tyler Toffoli trade.

It's a few spots that the CH can win here, but it can make a big difference in the end.
